The academic activities inherent to this position will support (but not exclusively) the research activities carried out in the Canada Research Chair in Senseable Cities for Empowered Mobilities, which aims at responding to the challenges of development of sustainable smart cities, concerned about the well-being of their citizens, in particular the most vulnerable people (notably those with disabilities and the elderly), through the development of an urban environment promoting better mobility and inclusion.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to carry out innovative teaching and research activities characterized by cross-sectoral collaborations (natural sciences and engineering, human and social sciences, health sciences), leading to the development of geospatial applications better adapted to the specific needs of different categories of people. The RPAS Geomatics Remote Sensing Specialist provides specialist advice to senior ministry decision-makers and to technical and professional staff in the ministry, sector or industry on the use and interpretation of drone data and technology. This position maximizes the potential of geospatial and information technologies – specifically remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), imagery, thermal, multi-spectral, and LiDAR - to support the Remote Sensing & Geodetic Engineering section at GeoBC and the NRM RPAS Program’s clients and business objectives.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in geomatics, resource management, geography, computer science, or related area.
• Experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications.
• Experience developing methodologies and performing custom geospatial data modelling, complex analysis, and interpretations.
• Holds an Advanced Pilot Certificate, Small Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), Visual line-of-sight (VLOS), issue by Transport Canada. Proof of certification will be requested.
